- Know where water goes and flows in the watershed! Be waterside in your watershed! Join the Shaw Ocean Discovery Centre for Waterwise programming during Spring Break and learn all about the local watershed and how your sink connects to the sea. Canada’s New Arctic Offshore Patrol Ships. Halifax, NS – Mar. 10
- This fall, the Royal Canadian Navy (RCN) will be on the cusp of change when steel is cut on the first Arctic Offshore Patrol Ship, HMCS Harry DeWolf. Though the Arctic is not a new area of exploration and patrol for the RCN, this will be the first class of ships purpose built for the RCN for this area. Maritime Museum of the Atlantic. 7:30PM. The Journal of Ocean Technology (JOT). Summer issue deadline: Mar. 13
- JOT invites the submission of technical papers that describe cutting edge research related to maritime domain awareness for its summer 2015 issue. Papers should present the results of new (i.e., not previously published) research in ocean technology, science or engineering. Monster Waves: The Ripple Effect of the Japanese Tsunami. Vancouver, BC – Mar. 18
- Join the Vancouver Aquarium for the Sea Monsters Revealed Evening Lecture Series. Several experts will be revealing secrets of the “monsters” in our ocean. Refreshments are available for purchase before each presentation and doors open early for some gallery exploration time. The series runs March to September 2015. 6:30PM. Canada’s Coolest Ocean Creature. Shubenacadie, NS – Mar. 21
- Presented by Sean Brillant of the Canadian Wildlife Federation at the Wetland Centre in the Wildlife Park. Canada is 9 million square km of land – but also 6 million square km of ocean. There are thousands of wildlife species in our oceans. Some you probably know, but you may not realize how cool they are. Others you’ve probably never even have heard of or didn’t know they were a part of Canada. Do we need to protect all of these species? Do we even affect them? What role do we all have to make sure we protect our oceans? And, which is Canada’s coolest ocean creature? Join us and find out! 1:00-2:30PM. FREE . Sea Monsters: Fact or Fiction? Vancouver, BC – Mar. 24
- Join the Vancouver Aquarium for a presentation on prehistoric and modern day sea monsters. Adam McGirr is the Vice President of the British Columbia Scientific Cryptozoology Club and has been studying strange creatures like Sea Serpents and Sasquatch for over 15 years. He has participated in numerous field expeditions and conferences, made several television appearances, as well as interviews in newspapers and magazines on the subject of monsters and mysteries. 6:30PM. - On May 1st and 2nd, 2015, Ocean Networks Canada will be hosting the third Ocean Science Symposium for 40 high school students at the University Of Victoria. Students and teachers in grades 8 through 10 with a keen interest in marine science and technology are invited to attend the third annual Ocean Science Symposium.
